PROGRESS MADE ON DRAIN RELOCATION LAST WEEK

Drain relocation progress.

Nearly 800 feet of storm sewer and two drainage structures were installed last week on the Bauer Drain Relocation project. Crews worked within the drain easement east of the Grimes Roads, through an open agricultural field. There was one day lost to weather last week, however, construction crews are already back to work this morning, hoping to near Grimes Road by the end of this week, weather dependent. Once work items progress into Grimes Road, the road will be closed until work is complete. More information to come on the Grimes Road closure.

BAUER DRAIN STORM SEWER PROGRESS

Construction crews began installing 48-inch round storm sewer this week after the completion of elliptical pipe installation. Restoration of previous work areas has been completed in an effort to reestablish vegetation. Progress will continue this week pending any delays from the rain in the forecast.

PROGRESS CONTINUES FOLLOWING WEATHER DELAYS

Elliptical pipe installation continues on the Bauer Drain Relocation project. The crews are making good progress this week following significant weather delays before the Fourth of July holiday. From June 25-27, approximately 4.2 inches of rain fell at the Bauer Drain project site. This amount of rain was equal to a storm that may statistically occur once every 10-25 years.

The elliptical pipe installation is scheduled to complete this week, and the crews will continue to conventional storm sewer installation, working west towards Grimes Road. The crews will also be mobilizing within the next week to the Sycamore Creek stream mitigation portion of the project in the City of Mason.

PIPE INSTALLATION BEGINS

Installation of storm sewer and a manhole for the relocated Bauer Drain.

Installation of storm sewer as part of the Bauer Drain Relocation began this week. Concrete storm sewer and manhole structures were installed near the existing Bauer Drain just west of Mt. Pleasant Road. Construction is being performed from crane mats initially as the Contractor works through an area of soft soils. From here, crews will continue to install storm sewer to extend the relocated Drain west then south to the Drain’s existing crossing under Grimes Road. Additional staging areas and access to the work area has been provided by various property owners.

The relocated section of the Bauer Drain will not be put into service until its construction is complete. Progress on this reach has been slow due to weather delays, and will be weather dependent going forward. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Terry Belill at (989) 996-5228.

PIPE INSTALLATION TO START

Mobilization of materials and equipment is about to begin on the pipe installation portion of the project. Storm sewer pipe deliveries will begin tomorrow, Friday, May 28, along Grimes Road. Additional equipment and materials are scheduled to be delivered and staged next week, Tuesday, June 1, to Friday, June 4. Installation of soil erosion and sedimentation control measures will also take place during this time. Equipment and materials may also be staged and stored at the northeast corner of Dexter Trail and Grimes Road.

CHANNEL CLEANOUT NEAR MT. PLEASANT ROAD

Progress on Open Channel

Initial open channel cleanout efforts have been performed on the Bauer Drain. Work started east of Mt. Pleasant Road at the drain’s confluence with the Doan Creek Drain. Soil erosion control measures were installed to prevent sediment from leaving the work area. Crews performed 2,265 feet of open channel cleanout work to a point 800 feet west of Mt. Pleasant Road. Sediment removed from the drain is being spoiled, leveled, seeded and treated with polymer within the drain right-of-way. The contractor is now awaiting pipe delivery to start storm sewer construction estimated for June 1, 2021.

CLEARING WORK CONCLUDES

Tree Clearing Cleanup Progress

Preliminary easement clearing work came to a close last week as crews on-site cleaned up fallen trees and debris. Logs were removed, stacked for storage, or coordinated with landowners as Jackson Dirt Works prepares to start excavation work around the 5th of May, 2021. Disturbed areas caused by tree clearing activities will be monitored and addressed as work progresses.

TREE CLEARING CLEANUP

Tree clearing cleanup continues from Jackson Dirt Works today. This cleanup effort is ahead of the open channel work that is proposed to start next week to the east of Mt. Pleasant Road. Weather delays may be experienced this week which could push off the starting date for channel work next week.

MAINTENANCE TREE CLEARING CLEANUP

Maintenance tree clearing of the Drain easement along portions of the Bauer Drain channel and relocation route are complete. Cleanup efforts will continue during the week of April 26, 2021 to remove tree debris and stack logs.
